Greater Twin Cities | United Way Spotlight School Award-2015 Ten Twin Cities schools were awarded $100,000 grants from the United Way and Target. Spotlight Schools’ teachers secured technology – from Smartboards to iPads – necessary to help students be on an even academic field by creating enriched classroom experiences in which students can excel and thrive.
Human Rights Campaign’s Welcoming Seal of Excellence-2014
Ten schools and two school districts were recognized for demonstrating high standards of implementation of Welcoming Schools in the areas of Leadership Development, Professional Development, Family Engagement, and Classroom Strategies. The Welcoming Schools approach is LGBT-inclusive, and creates school climates that welcome all family structures and all students.

The Minnesota Department of Education “recognizes top performing schools across the state,” called Reward Schools. Reward Schools score in the top 15 percent on the Multiple Measurement Rating (MMR), which is an alternative ranking system for schools. MMR scores take into account test scores on proficiency, student growth and how well students of color are performing compared to white students. Reward Schools, such as Hiawatha Academies score in the 87th to 100th percentile.

Awarded to Minnesota schools whose performance in Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment tests is “beating the odds” by “scoring some of the highest test scores in the state when student poverty is factored into the equation.”
